Richmond School Districts: An Honest Breakdown

3 min read

Schools drive a lot of buying decisions, and the information out there is either outdated or sugarcoated. Here's a straighter look.

Henrico and Chesterfield both have strong, well-regarded options, which is part of why families keep moving there. Glen Allen consistently draws buyers specifically for its schools and parks. Richmond City is more mixed, with some genuinely excellent specialty and magnet options alongside others that vary widely block to block. Price points track with all of this, so the "good school district" premium is real and worth planning for in your budget.

My honest take: don't buy on a school's reputation alone. Look at the specific schools your kids would actually attend, visit if you can, and weigh it against commute and price. The right fit is personal, not a ranking on a website.
